As you all know, phone warranties do not cover accessories such as earphones, USB cables, covers and batteries. This is because the mode of use by the purchaser can destroy them. Today, let me tell you about your most important accessory: the charger, plus why you must always use the original [Branded] charger.
But, first, let me tell you that there are already tens of cases of people who have been burned, hurt, and killed by phone chargers. Cases of house fires started by the same are also on the increase.
The following information will save your health, life, house and phone:
Charger/Battery Power Rating
If you ever used a charger that takes too long to fill your battery or one that charges very fast, you might be using the wrong charger. This might spoil your battery, burn the charger or overheat and cause a fire.
When you buy a charger, check that it is rated exactly or slightly above the Voltage of your battery. In short, if your battery is rated 4.0 volts, find a charger that is rated 4V or 4.2V.
Secondly, check the output Amperage (mA). If your cell is rated 1,000mA, use a charger that is exact or above that rating. If you use one that is 900mA, the battery will only fill up to the 900mA and stop. That leads to overheating, slow charging and device failure.
Finally, check the recommended output (Volts). If say, your country’s household voltage is 100-240Volts, buy a charger that is rated WITHIN this range. If you buy a charger with a rating of 50-200Volts, it will burn up immediately you plug it in.
To save you this stress, just purchase an original charger!
USB charge vs. Wall charge
As you have seen with modern chargers, they come combined with a USB and charger. At times, you may lose the cable and have to borrow one. When you do, you might realize that your phone charges slowly and also discharges very fast.
The problem is that we have USB 1.0, USB 2.0 and now USB 3.0 cables. The 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 cables utilize 500mA, 900mA and 1500mA respectively. Therefore, if your cable was USB 3.0 and you start using a 2.0, then you will have to charge longer and your phone might never get charged fully. Similarly, if you had a 1.0 and start using the 3.0, you risk spoiling your battery by exceeding its rating.

When you buy a Tecno charger, just know that is usually tested and certified by bodies such as MFI, RHOS and CE. Check and see. Your Tecno charger is branded with CE on one side.
If you buy an uncertified charger, you risk having loose wires, poor quality components, no fuse, no regulator, poor transformer plus many other dangerous faults. These can cause your battery to spoil, burn or explode. They can even damage your phone! However, when you purchase an original charger, you are rest assured that the quality is right and you live in no danger.

To be safe:
- Use the original charger that you bought with your gadget.
- If it spoils or get lost, buy an original one from a branded seller.
- Check your cell ratings before borrowing a charger from someone.
- Carry your USB/charger whenever you can. That is what works best for your cellphone.
- Realize that cheap chargers mean they are missing something like certification. Do not buy cheap, unbranded chargers!
- If you purchase an unoriginal charger, make sure all its rating match those of your original charger.
As such, there is no harm. However, your charger’s life might reduce since it remains plugged in and all its components are working.
Therefore, be a good owner: Unplug your charger from the power socket when it’s not in use. That guy wants to rest as well, OK?
